Good / fair limits for coins: silver 8% / 12%, gold 3% / 5%, platinum 6% / 10%, palladium 7% / 12%. Bars are tighter and depend on size. A 1 oz bar uses silver 6% / 10%, gold 2% / 4%, platinum 4% / 8%, palladium 5% / 10%. Those limits are four times wider under about 6 g, double under about 22 g, three-quarters from 2 oz and half from 10 oz (about 311 g) upwards, so a 1 kg bar is judged strictly. Coins use one set of limits whatever their size, so fractional coins can look expensive. The platinum and palladium limits are rough guides, less established than gold and silver. In the UK, investment gold has no VAT, so with pounds selected, switching to Gold sets VAT to No; silver, platinum and palladium carry 20%. With any other currency the tax rate starts at 0, so enter your own local rate if tax applies.
